Vietnam Airlines opens direct route from Hanoi to Melbourne
On June 15, 2023, Vietnam Airlines officially inaugurated its international route between Hanoi and Melbourne. This is Vietnam Airlines’ second international route from Hanoi to Australia, following the route to Sydney.
The new route will provide more convenient travel options for passengers, especially for tourists, visitors, workers, or students traveling to Melbourne – the second largest city in Australia. On the same day, there was a flight from Melbourne to Hanoi and a flight from Hanoi to Melbourne. The direct route between Hanoi and Melbourne will operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, using the Airbus A350 aircraft, which is introduced as the most modern aircraft in Asia.
According to that, Vietnam Airlines operates four direct routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney and Melbourne, with a total frequency of up to 18 flights per week.
In addition to Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air has also officially launched direct flights to Australia since April 2023, primarily with flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne and Sydney. Vietjet Air is also offering various attractive promotional programs and increasing the frequency of round-trip flights to Australia, specifically toMelbourne and Sydney, in order to optimize costs and provide more choices for passengers.
The focus on operating direct flights to Australia by airlines demonstrates the potential of this market. It also presents a great opportunity for Vietnam’s tourism industry to attract international tourists from Australia to Vietnam due to its cost attractiveness.
In fact, there has been a significant increase in Australian tourists visiting Vietnam since the beginning of the year, mainly due to the lower airfares and other expenses compared to many other destinations. A Sydney resident mentioned that a trip to Disney Park in Florida, USA, would cost at least $50,000. In contrast, she was able to book a round-trip ticket to Vietnam for just over $430. “This is a fantastic opportunity. The food, accommodation, activities, and tours in Vietnam are reasonably priced,” the tourist shared.
The majority of Australian tourists who visit Vietnam often describe it as a country that is “very friendly to travelers’ wallets.” The long stretches of pristine white sandy beaches, rich cultural heritage, unique cuisine, friendly and amiable people, along with affordable living costs, have made Vietnam an ideal destination for Australian travelers.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, nearly 82,000 Australian visitors arrived in Vietnam in the first quarter of the year, a 14.4% increase when compared to the same period in 2019. The air route to Vietnam has also witnessed significant growth, with a 21% increase. The increase in direct round-trip flights between Vietnam and Australia has resulted in shortened travel times and optimized costs, which are crucial factors that influence Australian tourists’ decision to choose Vietnam over other countries. This indicates the potential growth of Vietnam’s tourism market with an increasing market share of Australian visitors.
